Our Story

Why Hungary?

Our connection to Hungary began with a phone call in the middle of the night in 2011. An orphanage system was looking for a group of people to hold a camp for children that summer. In a matter of months, Brett coordinated a team of people to travel to Hungary and run a camp for nearly 300 youth ranging from age 5-18. Despite the language barrier, the week was packed with activities, competitions, talent shows, outdoor games, and daily evangelistic services. The first week was a success and 78 children and workers accepted Christ.

The structure of the camps and relationship with the Hungarian government necessitated the formation of a 501c3 organization called the Hungarian American Fellowship (HAF). Through this government-recognized entity, we were granted access and permission to work with disadvantaged and disabled children in the state systems.

For the next 12 years, camps were held for various groups around the country, eventually serving a couple thousand children, and seeing nearly 800 saved. The outreach expanded to winter camps for more targeted biblical instruction and delivering Christmas boxes in December. Age and gender specific gift boxes were assembled and given to the youth as part of an annual holiday party. Several orphanage systems across the country became recipients of these boxes that were funded by individuals and churches through the HAF.

As Brett continued to make multiple trips a year to Hungary, he began to meet national pastors there and in neighboring Romania. From these relationships, it became evident that intensive Biblical training was desired from pastors across the region. And so, the Pastors Training Fellowship was formed, with the plan of holding three conferences annually.

Brett

Brett has been in the full-time ministry since 1996, and has served in many capacities including youth director, church planter, associate pastor, and senior pastor. He loves learning and teaching the Word of God, along with deepening and sharing his relationship with Jesus Christ. He welcomes the challenge of ground zero missions building on a foreign field. In his free time, he enjoys spy novels, especially of the WWII and Cold War era, Detroit area sports, and spending time with his wife and two dogs.

Kim

Kim has served alongside Brett since they were married, learning to wear many hats along the way. Her accounting and business education enabled her to pursue a business career while they raised their four children and served in the full-time ministry. Kim loves to have people over to their home for dinner and conversation, working with children in foreign countries, and leading women’s Bible studies.

Cole

Cole is the youngest of the four Bartlett children and graduated high school in 2023. He’s looking forward to pursuing a business degree at the University of Szeged and has already had some ministry and teaching experience in Hungary. He’s a huge fan of Michigan football and video games.
